About the Author

Raghuveer Sahay was a resident of Badaun and an active participant in the Indian freedom movement, taking part in successive Congress-led campaigns in the district. It was this first-hand involvement — not just historical research — that led the Zila Nagrik Parishad, Badaun, to entrust him with writing the district's history of the freedom struggle in 1972.

In his own note in the book, Sahay wrote that he initially suggested the task be given to someone else, feeling reluctant to write himself into the account — but the Parishad insisted, and he accepted the responsibility. He drew on newspaper writings he had published during the movement itself, on published histories of the Congress and of Gandhi, on the district gazetteer, and on information shared by fellow freedom fighters, completing the manuscript that was published in 1974.
